Wooden spindle box is a Montessori material to introduce the basics of calculation.

Spindle boxes are two boxes divided into five compartments each.
One box has the numerals 0-4 at the back of the compartments; the other box has the numerals 5-9 at the back of the compartments
The spindle are plastic rods with no markings, entirely made of plastic.
The purpose of this Montessori materials is to allow your child to make the link between a number/symbol and quantity/object, while introducing the concept of zero.
Your child will have to associate the symbols with the numbers of spindles in each compartments.
If there are too few or too many spindles, the child knows if he/she has made an error.
